RIDING through this wide open land is an amazing experience. From the lush coastal and hinterland regions, to the humidity of the tropics, to the dryness and desert heat of the interior.
It is IMPORTANT to keep in mind some of the things many Riders take for granted, or may be unaware of.
FOOD ALCOHOL MEDICATIONS DEHYDRATION
FOOD: Often after a large meal, a feeling of LETHARGY or TIREDNESS occurs which can affect a Rider's ability to concentrate. Try to avoid having an enormous meal during the day's ride.
Have a good Breakfast
Take smaller food breaks during the day, rather than 1 huge meal,
Eat a satisfying evening meal at dinner.
And remember to drink enough water to avoid dehydration.
ALCOHOL: If you consume alcohol in Australia the
Maximum Legal BLOOD ALCOHOL Limit is 0.05%
If you have not held your OPEN MOTORCYCLE LICENCE for a period of 12 MONTHS the Legal BLOOD ALCOHOL Limit is ZERO !
ENSURE you are in a sober condition at ALL TIMES during the ride, and if you enjoy a drink or two afterwards, please do not over do it,
If you go out on a "BENDER" and drink to excess at night, the next morning you may still be OVER the LEGAL BLOOD ALCOHOL Limit, putting yourself and the Group in danger.
Please remember that ALCOHOL and the DESERT HEAT can lead to DEHYDRATION, which can have serious health consequences.
Again, if you have a drink, DRINK SENSIBLY.
MEDICATIONS: Some medications may affect a Rider's awareness and abilities.
If you are taking prescription medications please discuss with your Physician any precautions necessary
for riding long distances in Australian weather conditions. Do this PRIOR TO THE RIDE.
DO NOT combine Alcohol with Prescription Medications whilst on tour.
DEHYDRATION: Put simply, is when the body is loosing more water than it is taking in.
When we lose too much water, our bodies may become dehydrated. Severe dehydration can lead to death.
Dehydration can affect anyone in our Australian climate conditions.
